Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.) -- Walt Whitman

Welcome to my edge of sanity. In this space you will find much random information about me in no particular order. Basic facts: UC Santa Barbara student, part time consultant, and teacher. I just finished my masters degree last June and am pushing forward on my PhD. My hope is to graduate within two years....then again the official answer to the ever-present question of "when?", is "When it's finished."

4/9/2006 -- Accepted to education abroad

The flu season has passed but I've just been hit with the bug. Sleeping for 18 hours straight, and waking for nothing more than grape juice or advil has been my modus operandi for the past few days. I'm starting to feel bored though, so I guess that's a good sign for recovery. Was hoping to see the SB symphony tomorrow but that's not going to happen.

So, it's the tax season again, and lo how we all love paperwork. I thought, with 1099-MISC forms, that I'd have 30+pages of paperwork to fill out. It took me only a day to figure which ones I needed, download them, then fill them out. The itemized deductions can help a lot. There was an op-ed in the NY times today about not filing taxes if you don't have deductions...what an excellent idea. It wasn't advocating the abolishment of all taxes (how else would we finance the war effort?), just the idea that people need to tell the IRS what it already knows. Case in point: try leaving the "total income" box on your 1040EZ form blank...

Some fun stuff:

  • Community Affairs Board The university volunteer club I work with.
  • Special Olympics Coaching people with disabilities can be lots of fun.
  • Japan Trip 2004 Picture library of my trip to Japan in June of 2004. Pictures are from Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, and Kanazawa (Ishikawa).
  • Hike & Barbecue July 2004 Good times with good friends. During my summer internship at Mentor Graphics.
  • Caving 2004 Caving trip in Washington state over the summer. I think we went about a mile underground? Rule of thumb: always bring a flashlight.
